RIDA has gained substantial experience in short period of time after its reformation and possesses strong pool of experts. The experiences are particularly in education sector, and in monitoring and evaluation activities.
RIDA was successfully involved in monitoring and analysis of the impact of 3F crisis on education in Nepal for the period of June 2009 – December, 2009, and January, 2010 – December, 2010. In coordination with UNICEF and DOE, RIDA produced seven quarterly reports covering seven quarters..

Monitoring System to Assess and Analyze the Impact of 3F (Food, Fuel and Financial) Crisis on Children’s Education in Nepal commissioned by United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Country Office Nepal for the period of June 1, 2009 – December 30, 2011. The study covered around 30 districts throughout the country and aimed at establishing a monitoring mechanism in all districts with support from District Education Offices. The monitoring system involved: (i) household level monitoring (through NEKSAPVAM survey), (ii) school level monitoring (through monthly and quarterly sentinels collected through district education office and department of education), and (iii) community level monitoring (involving focus group discussions with teachers, students and mothers). The mechanism involved cohort tracking of more than 4000 students every month for around four years. The system produced seven quarterly reports and two semi-annual reports.
- United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Country Office Nepal for the period of June 1, 2009 – December 31, 2009. The study covers 11 districts throughout the country and is aimed at establishing monitoring mechanism in all districts with support from District Education Offices. The study involved quantitative data analysis based on World Food Program’s household monitoring database, school level monitoring through questionnaire and field visits accompanied by focus group discussions. The field study involved intensive FGD with mother’s group, children and teachers. The impact of the crisis on economic decisions of households, consumption related behaviors, gender relations, and attendance as well as learning achievement of student was also observed. The program is extended till December 31, 2010.

Assessment of the analysis of the impact of 3F (Food, Fuel and Financial) Crisis on Children’s Education
Country case study on free and public health services in Nepal
Commissioned by Oxfam Hongkong for the period of February – April, 2012. The evaluation involved assessment of livelihood linked activities conducted by Oxfam Hongkong and its partners in four districts (Nawalparasi, Kapilbastu, Gorkha and Udaypur). The study involve design of study methodology, field visits and information collection, data analysis, and drafting of evaluation report.
The needs assessment conducted in upper Himalayan region of Manang/Mustang, Dolpa and Taplejung covering 500 households, 9 schools, 9 health centers and qualitative information collection from local elites, district offices, mothers, children etc. The study included survey and also qualitative information collection through FGDS with mothers, children and teacher of local area. In addition, semi-structure interviews were also conducted with concerned stakeholders

Study main group
- Education Sector in Nepal commissioned by UNESCO Bangkok together with UNESCO Kathmandu (October, 2008 to February, 2009) implemented in association with FHD. This is a national level study with 4 districts taken for field based information collection. The study consisted of detailed review of national level studies, policy documents, field level studies, formation and consultation of think tank and decentralization mapping. The major study areas were education decentralization, fiscal decentralization and intergovernmental transfers, assessment of service delivery mechanisms and legal as well as policy analysis.
- Programme implemented by Government commissioned by Resource Center for Primary Health Care (RECPHEC) and Oxfam GB for the period of February – April, 2009. The study included qualitative and quantitative analysis in assessing the level of use and benefits of free health service programme. The study involved identification of policy, financial and feedback gaps in implementation and also collected the feedbacks from the real clients.
For selecting poor students within Administration of Student Financial Assistance Trust Fund (December, 2008– November, 2011) commissioned by SFAFDB and The World Bank in association with DEVTEC Nepal and Rastriya Banijya Bank. RIDA is carrying out the programme implementation throughout the country (in all 75 districts). The programme included designing of conditional cash transfer modalities, development of PMT application form, conducting awareness campaign in 75 districts, collect application form, select students and facilitate in monitoring the progress.
